BAND OF SISTERS – Directed by Mary Fishman
Inspired by Vatican II and the great social movements of the 1960s and 70s, Catholic sisters in the U.S. made a startling transformation from obedient "daughters of the church" to citizens of the world. BAND OF SISTERS weaves this remarkable history with current day stories of nuns on the cutting edge who work for social justice.

October 25
2:00 pm SPILLED WATER – Directed by May Tchao
3:30 pm JENS JENSEN THE LIVING GREEN – Directed by Carey Lundin
SPILLED WATER explores the lives of four Chinese women as their country’s rapid economic transformation shifts their roles, rights and status as mothers, wives and daughters. Through their intimate stories, we learn how and why gender equality in China is so hard-earned but worth the struggle.
Few know the name JENS JENSEN today but his ideas about making city life healthy and green could not be more important. He battled endemic corruption and stood up to the most powerful men in America to save the Dunes of Indiana, set aside parks all over the Midwest, and make the south and west sides of Chicago livable for the working poor.

THE CURATORS OF DIXON SCHOOL – Directed by Pamela Sherrod Anderson
Public schools don't have to be a minefield of metal detectors, minimal expectations and mind-numbing routine. An alternative exists in Chicago at the Dixon Elementary Public School, where enlightened educators have implemented the idea that art should be an integral part of the everyday learning environment, with museum-quality works openly adorning the halls.

SOLE SURVIVOR – Directed by Ky Dickens
In the history of aviation, there have only been 14 of them: sole survivors of commercial airline disasters. Most have never spoken publicly about the loss, the guilt, the immense pressure of feeling "spared.” Focusing on George Lamson Jr., the only survivor of the 1985 crash of Galaxy Airlines Flight 203, SOLE SURVIVOR lets four of them share their very complex, personal stories for the first time.
