In this six-week course, students learn the fundamentals of digital cinematography and lighting, and will gain hands-on experience using popular digital film equipment, including 4K DSLR cameras and LED light panels. Students will develop an understanding of the visual language of cinema (golden ratios/composition, depth of field, motivation, blocking, continuity, aesthetics, etc.), and will be guided through class projects where they’ll be able to test variables such as color temperature, exposure, lenses, frame rates, and lighting styles). Class sessions will consist of lectures, video demonstrations, instructions on proper equipment use, studio work, and critiques.
This course meets once a week for three hours over a six week term.
